An Angus Reid Institute survey finds Democrats ahead of Republicans 53% to 43% among decided voters on the generic 2026 congressional ballot. Democrats lead among respondents in blue and purple states, while Republican support is concentrated in deep-red states; cost of living and inflation is the top issue.
The poll provides a new national measure of the 2026 House environment and, if sustained, would improve the Democratic Party’s prospects in the aggregate House-control market. It is not a seat projection, however, because district-level races, turnout, incumbency, and the existing state maps will determine the final chamber majority.
